David’s Problem Sons

2 Samuel 13-14

Summary:

Amnon, son of David falls in love with his sister. Amnon devised a plan to have Tamar bring him food to get her alone. Amnon rapes his sister and his brother Absalom finds out, and out of anger kills him. Absalom avoiding retribution flees to the city of Gehsur. King David mourns for his son and still longs to be with Absalom. (2 Samuel 14) Absalom devises a plan to gain his father’s heart back by sending a foreign woman to tell King David a parable of a story similar to David and Absalom’s. David decided to forgive Absalom and send for him to come back to Jerusalem. Absalom did not see his father for three years after returning to Jerusalem. Finally Absalom sees his father, bows down to him and David forgives him.
