EPIC: The Story of God

Tuesday, March 24th

David and Bathsheba
2 Samuel 10-12

Summary:
David tries to make a treaty with the Ammonites. King Hadadezer thought they were spies and degraded them by cutting half of their beards and cutting off their cloaks. David responds by defeating them in battle and making them subject to Israel. 2 Samuel 11 David uses his royal power to take another man’s wife for his own. David breaks the sixth, seventh, and tenth commandment. Bathsheba becomes pregnant with David’s son. David tries to get Bathsheba’s husband Uriah to lie with her so no one would know the child was his. David has Uriah put on the front lines of the war to be killed. 2 Samuel 12 God sends Nathan to David with a parable about a rich man with many lambs who took the only lamb of a poor man to feed his guest. David is angered against the man and said he should pay for his behavior. Nathan then tells David the story is about him. David’s punishment by God is the death of his son.
