EPIC: The Story of God
Tuesday, March 17Saul's Jealousy
1 Samuel 18-20
Summary
David quickly became famous and praised for his many military successes. Unfortunately for David this put his life in danger because of King Saul’s jealousy. Saul could see the LORD was with David, so he felt threatened that his throne was going to be taken and handed to David. However, David was able to evade the many attempts at his life by Saul through blessings of military protection as well as deep friendships with Saul’s son, Jonathon, and Saul’s daughter.
Sample of Today’s Reading:
1 Samuel 18:7-9
As they danced, they sang:”Saul has slain histhousands, and David his tens of thousands.” 8 Saul was very angry; this refrain galled him. They have credited David with tens of thousand,” he thought, :but me with only thousands. What more can he get but the kingdom? 9 And from that time on Saul kept a jealous eye on David.
1 Samuel 20:32-33“Why should he be put to death? What has he done?” Jonathan asked his father. 33 But Saul hurled his spear at him to kill him. Then Jonathan knew that his father intended to kill David.
