Day Three: God’s Faithfulness
Joshua 9-12
Summary:
In today’s reading you will find that the fame of the Lord had spread to the neighboring nations. In an effort to establish a treaty with the Israelites the Gibeonite nation plays a trick on the people which Joshua honors. Chapter ten records an incredible event where God stops the sun for a full day in order to protect his people. This is followed by an extensive list of all the kings Joshua and the people of Israel defeated during their military campaigns. In a world drunk with war, God proves that no nation or war can stand in the way of fulfilling his promises.
Sample of Today’s Reading:
Joshua 10:13a-14
13a The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day. 14 There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the LORD listened to a man. Surely the LORD was fighting for Israel!

Question of the Day:
Do you believe God is willing to fight for you and do the impossible in order to show you his love?
Prayer Focus:
I see the incredible things that God did in those four chapters, but it is still hard for me to see how God was showing love to the world as he had Israel slaughter all those people. I understand they were worshiping idols and far away from God's truth, but there are many people and nations like that today that God does not slaughter like that. Is it that because Jesus has not come yet, they deserve physical as well as spiritual death (eternal separation from God)? Why wouldn't God have wanted the Israelites to witness to his truth and have the other nations wait for a Messiah as well? I know God can do anything, so I feel like he still would have been able to make Israel great and give them the promised land while still showing mercy on the surrounding nations.
