Solomon’s Pagan Wives

1 Kings 9-11

Summary:

The Lord appears to Solomon and tells him that if Solomon does all God commands and observes the decrees and laws then God promises that there will always be a man on the throne of Israel. God warned him that if Solomon or his sons turned away then God would cut off Israel from the land. King Solomon grew extremely wealthy and eventually married many women from various nations the Lord had told the Israelites not to intermarry with. Solomon had seven hundred wives and three hundred concubines. His wives turned his heart to other gods, so the Lord told Solomon that the kingdom would be taken away from his son.

1 Kings 11: 9, The Lord became angry with Solomon because his heart had turned away from the Lord, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice. Although he had forbidden Solomon to follow other gods, Solomon did not keep the Lord’s command.
