EPIC: The Story of God
Monday, March 8th
Ruth
Ruth 1-4
Summary:
Up to this point we have seen impressive stories of God at work in the world. We have read impressive stories of God raising up seemingly larger than life godly leaders during times of moral and spiritual darkness. Very Impressive! So much that many of us feel "left out" of God's "big story."
Then we turn the page and come upon the story of two widows, Ruth and Naomi, and a farmer named Boaz. The story of Ruth takes place druing the time of the Judges. The setting is a farming community seemingly far away from the action.
Ruth was an "outsider" who was not born into the faith and felt no part of it. But her seemingly obscure life came to be a critical link to God's plan for His people. Little did Ruth know that she would become the great-grandmother of David the ancestor of Jesus. Little did she know that her sacrificial love for her mother-in-law would point to the love of Christ. Her actions and choices made a big difference.
The book of Ruth shows us that no matter how ordinary or "obscure" we think our own lives are--we are each irreplaceable in the full telling of God's story.
Sample of Today's Reading:
Ruth 1:16-18
16 But Ruth replied, "Don't urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. 17 Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the LORD deal with me, be it ever so severely, if anything but death separates you and me." 18 When Naomi realized that Ruth was determined to go with her, she stopped urging her.

Question of the Day:
How difficult is it to make godly choices? Do I think it matters to God what my choices are today?
Prayer Focus:
Lord, I want to follow you because you are love. I want to be where you are. Please show me today how to please you more that I did yesterday.
